Mount Etna is a venue of incomparable beauty and it is the most well-known active volcano in Europe. It reaches the height of almost 3.300 meters and with its cone-like form, dominates the Mediterranean Sea.
In a harmonious way Mt. Etna is a melting-pot of various natural elements: volcanistic, geographic, climatic, biological and also anthropologic.
Mt. Etna is covered with ancient buildings made out of lava rock. The actually Mt. Etna is more recent, it’s called the system of Mongibello, formed by the present day Central Crater, together with the principal chasm and the chasm, west of the two subterminal craters on the North-West, which formed in 1911, and the South-Eastern crater formed in 1978. The activity of the present day Mongibello is based on gas and ash emission, in periods of apparent calm and tranquillity, Mt. Etna is defined to be of moderate and persistant activity.
